Nov. 23 - Congratulations to Annaleigh Greene, Ivonne Medina, Michelle Nero and Shawna Rose for their stellar performance at the fifth annual TATA Cup Sustainability Case Competition hosted by the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa and presented by TATA Consultancy Services.
The victory is JMSB's first at a TATA Cup event and demonstrates the team's extensive knowledge in issues related to sustainability. Participants were faced with an automotive industry business case that made recent headlines: the severed relationship that resulted after Magna's bid to purchase Opel and GM's withdrawal from the sale. Competitors were given three hours to examine a collection of newspaper articles, organizational facts and figures, and develop a strategy to a panel of judges from industry and governmental agencies. Team JMSB's winning proposal and recommendations, entitled "Become The Resource in Environmentally Sound Technologies", will soon be reviewed by the corporations in the actual case.
Coach Dan Silverman credited the success of the MBA students to the program's structure and focus on sustainability-related topics and noted that the TATA Cup victory comes less than a week after JMSB's inauguration of the David O'Brien Centre for Sustainable Enterprise. Coach Silverman added that the students' understanding of issues in sustainable development and focus on the "Triple Bottom Line of People, Planet, and Profit" were clearly reflected in their presentation and recommendations.
The team would like to thank the many supporters that followed them all the way to Ottawa to cheer them on and celebrate their success.
